Her career in journalism began with Myrtle Beach South Carolina as a news reporter and anchor for WPDE-TV. She later worked as anchor of the morning news and as a crime reporter for WCBD-TV. The articles written by O'Dell in Charleston on how Charleston police handled DUI cases in a manner that was lenient, resulted in an investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division. The inquiry led to a stronger direction for state officials. Ms. O'Dell received recognition from The Associated Press with the Best Report of the Year Awards to all media South Carolina. O'Dell later worked at the Miami-based station of NBC WTVJ-TV as a investigative reporter and anchor, prior to her joining Access Hollywood in the role of co-anchor for the weekend. As well as her job as the lead anchor on Access Hollywood Ms. O'Dell is also a contributor to NBC News' Today and as well contributes to Dateline NBC. She co-hosted several of Pre-ShowArrivals programs for The Emmys as well as The Golden Globe Awards. She has also hosted The Miss America Pageant as well as the Miss USA Pageant and Miss Universe.
